Barbados Drivers License Renewal

US drivers license, to my knowledge, works in T&C. Don’t know about having to change that. Once you’ve set up utility deposits, you can transfer to your hearts content. All learner permit holders, with the exception of those who hold a learner permit in category A1, A2, A, AM, or W, must be accompanied at all times by an Approved Driving Instructor (ADI) or someone who holds a full, valid driving licence in the same category for more than two years.

Foreign visitors and temporary residents in Barbados are required to obtain a temporary visitors drivers permit before they can drive on public roads.

The permit is available for two varied periods, each having different fee to consider

  • Visitors driving permit — US$ 5.00 for two months
  • Visitors driver’s license — US$ 50.00 for up to a maximum of one year.

Please Note: Barbados driving licenses are valid for over 2 months are only issued by the Barbados Licensing Authority offices

If you are going to rent a car to get around during your stay in Barbados, we will make it easy for you to acquire a tourist driving license valid for up to 2 months (in most cases our valued customers choose this option).

There is also an age restriction for obtaining a permit to drive

(minimum requirement is 21 years of age or older and will need to have a valid International drivers license issued from your country of residence).

Elderly citizens aged 70 years or older, and citizens with physical challenges wishing to acquire a temporary visitors driving license in Barbados will need to produce a medical certificate from a local medical practitioner proving they are fit and healthy to drive.

When you arrive in Barbados the last thing you need is the hassle and inconvenience of having to queue up in a government office to get your required temporary driver’s permit.

With Drive Barbados, you can avoid all this stress.

We can advise you of in advance of your visit what is required and personally sort out all the administration and paperwork for you.

This means that when we meet you at the airport or sea port, we will not only have your car ready and waiting for you, but we will also be able to present you with your temporary driver’s permit at the same time.

As a qualified driver whose licence has expired, the process for renewal is a simple one.

Visit any of our locations and complete the necessary application form and pay the prescribed fee. (The amount will be determined by the group of licence you hold and the period for which it is renewed)
Once this is done, your new card will be printed and you will be on your way!

Do you now have a disability? If so, this does not necessarily mean that you will not be able to renew your licence.
Under the prescribed law, anyone whose disability is appropriately controlled can continue to hold a Cayman Islands driver licence.

Remember, it is an offence for a person to drive a motor vehicle on a road if he/she is not licenced or authorized by the appropriate authority.
